Frequently Asked Questions
-
What age can you start skating?Amy has taught skaters as young as three and adults into their 50's! Skaters begin with group lessons in a local Learn to Skate program and can transition to private lessons once they can skate without assistance.
-
How often should I practice?Skaters should practice by themselves as often as they take lessons. If you have 90 minutes of lessons per week, you should be skating an additional 90 minutes to master what you have learned in your lessons. Off-ice warm-ups and cool-downs are essential to maximize your time on the ice.
-
Where should I purchase skates?Beginner skates can be purchased at your local skate/ski shop. Once skaters require more sophisticated skates, Fred Bartick in Bloomington offers excellent customized services.
-
How often should my skates be sharpened?A general rule is after 20-30 hours of skating. If you experience any nicks or skate on an outdoor rink, skate sharpening is advised regardless of the hours skated.
-
Can I add an additional coach to my team?If you wish to expand your skater's coaching team, please schedule these lessons through Amy to keep a cohesive training plan and communication with all team members.
-
Should I book ice time or lesson time first? Please get in touch with Coach Amy before booking ice time to ensure she is available during the sessions you are interested in. Her cancellation policy is if you are unable to make your scheduled lesson time, please provide notice via text or email at least 24 hours in advance, or the full lesson fee will be charged.
